EXPERIENCES, NOT EVENTS; RADICAL CHANGE, NOT REACTIONARY

CLR Responds to RACE

CLR RESPONDS TO RACE – REFLECT, ACKNOWLEDGE, CALL TO ACTION, AND EDUCATE – IS ENCOURAGING EDUCATORS TO HAVE FOUR INTERCONNECTED EXPERIENCES THAT SHOULD CAUSE DISCOMFORT AND INSPIRE RADICAL CHANGE.

Check back on the 1st and 15th of each month for newly updated resources.

These four experiences can be done in any order. There is no prescription. Separately, they are just experiences, but collectively they will move you to the next step in your journey to responsiveness.

REFLECT
Deep introspection that provides an indication of where you are with race/racism, individually. In short, radical change starts with you.

ACKNOWLEDGE
Silence is complicity. The big elephant in the room has to be acknowledged through conversation, of course, but with conversations that lead to action.

CALL TO ACTION
The difference in our activism and advocacy, ”this time,” has to be tangible, measurable actions at the individual level, as well as the institutional level. Do something!

EDUCATE
Ignorance is not bliss and knowledge is power. The number one correlation to biased thinking is level of ignorance. Reading, listening, and/or watching texts, videos, webinars, podcasts, etc., and then discussing them. Rinse and repeat.
