Borders by Thomas King

Grades 4-7

Borders by Thomas King
is a story about a Blackfoot mother and her son who have trouble at the U.S. and Canadian borders because they say their citizenship is “Blackfoot,” not American or Canadian. This causes them to get stuck and shows how unfair it can be when countries don’t recognize Indigenous people’s identity. The pictures by Natasha Donovan help tell the story and show how hard it is for Indigenous families who live on land split by borders.
